Executive Mandate Advisory

Succeed in the role you have been trusted to lead.

A promotion, a move to a new company, a substantially bigger mandate. However it happened, the role now carries a level of authority, exposure, and accountability that your previous work did not fully prepare you for.

Executive Mandate Advisory is a private engagement for executives responsible for a larger mandate than they have led before. That may come from a recent promotion, a new role, or scope that has grown inside the organization. The work focuses on what the mandate actually requires, what you own, how you need to operate differently at this level, and what success needs to look like.

Who this is for

This is for executives carrying a mandate that needs to succeed.

Most people who apply are VP, SVP, EVP, or C-suite executives who have inherited major new scope, or who have stepped into a role where the organization has given them more to carry. The operating habits that worked at the previous level no longer cover what the mandate now demands.

Common situations include accountability that depends on other executives' decisions, a team still deciding whether to follow, a CEO whose expectations are not fully stated, and peers with more history in the organization than you have.

The engagement exists to help you read what the mandate actually requires and to build the authority the role needs while the situation is still taking shape.

The framework

Five areas decide whether the mandate succeeds

The engagement works through five areas of the role. Together they define what you own, how you operate, and what has to be true when the work is done.

The mandate

Mandate

What are you actually responsible for producing?

Authority

What can you decide, direct, resource, or change?

Priorities

What deserves your attention first, and what can wait?

Leadership

How do you operate through the people and relationships required to deliver?

Results

What needs to be true by the end of the engagement?

The work

Private advisory while the mandate takes shape

This work cannot be done entirely in advance. You have to enter the situation, make decisions, meet the people involved, and discover what the organization actually expects. The engagement is structured so real situations drive the advisory work.

Understand the mandate.

What you are actually here to accomplish, what you own, what your CEO expects, where decision rights sit, and what needs your attention first.

Establish how you will operate.

Priorities, leadership approach, key relationships, how you make calls, what you delegate, where you need to establish authority, and where organizational dependencies could affect your results.

Begin producing evidence.

Major decisions, changes in how the function operates, early results, stakeholder confidence, and what needs to be established for the rest of the year.

Live situations get answered between sessions.

This engagement includes a direct channel between sessions. When your CEO challenges a decision, when your team resists a change, when you have to present a recommendation on Thursday, you can bring it into the advisory work while it is still live. That access is part of what the engagement is for.

The aim is straightforward: you become more effective in the role you have already earned, and the organization sees evidence that you can carry the responsibility you were given.
